Yes! Per the Town Code, Chapter 8, Section 2 - Candidate qualification procedure: Any qualified elector within the town may become a candidate for any office to be filled at any election by paying to the town clerk a qualifying fee in the sum of $35.00 and by filing with the town clerk, not less than four weeks prior to the primary election, a written notice stating that he or she intends to be a candidate at such election, identifying for what group, and requesting that his or her name be placed upon the ballot to be prepared for said election. The notice shall be signed by such candidate and acknowledged by a notary public or other officer duly authorized to administer oaths. The town clerk is authorized to administer the oath in such cases.
While the Town Clerk is the Qualifying (Filing) Officer for our municipality, pursuant to F.S. 99.061(7)(c), the filing officer performs only a ministerial function in reviewing qualifying papers. Therefore, the Town Clerk may only review the qualifying papers to determine whether all items required have been properly filed and whether each item is complete on its face, but may not determine whether the contents of the qualifying papers are accurate.
Any information you share will be held and used only by the Town except as it pertains to a public-records request in accordance with Florida law.
