Chief Brian J. Smith
Chief Brian J. Smith has been the Chief of Police of the Juno Beach Police Department since May 2009. Originally from New York, he began his law enforcement career with the New York Police Department (N.Y.P.D) in January of 1982. During his career with the N.Y.P.D., Chief Smith was assigned to several high priority assignments such as Street Narcotics Enforcement Unit, Anti-Crime Unit, Vice Unit and Community Policing Unit. Following the devastating events of September 11, 2001, in the rank of Lieutenant, he was assigned to supervise rescue and recovery operations as well as security operations at "Ground Zero" (World Trade Center site.) Chief Smith retired from the N.Y.P.D. in March 2002.
Chief Smith is currently the President of Palm Beach County Association of Chiefs of Police. He is on the board of directors for the Florida Police Chiefs Association (FPCA) and he is the Policy Committee Chair for the Law Enforcement Exchange (information sharing project.)
Chief Smith earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from The State University of New York, Empire State College. Chief Smith graduated from the 251st Session of the F.B.I. National Academy (FBINA.)
